The Fixion Proximal Femur Nailing System is designed to treat proximal femur fractures. It combines an expandable nail for the femoral shaft with a dynamic expandable hip peg for stability within the femoral head.
FEATURES
THE FIXION PF NAIL
Expanded within the medullary canal using saline solution.
Inserted into the femoral canal in a reduced diameter and then expanded.
Bent to suit the anatomical curvature of the femur, and adapts to the contours and shape of the medullary canal.
Allows for perfect positioning within the canal and at the fracture site.
Bone fixation is enhanced by four longitudinal bars.
Fixation to the cortex is achieved along the entire length of the nail.
Available in short and long versions with a choice of 3 neck angles (125º, 130º, 135º).
THE FIXION PF HIP PEG
Expands within the femoral head using saline solution.
Expansion condenses trabaecular bone to enhance fixation.
Insertion only requires a drill diameter of 8mm.
Tip with three bars, expands to up to 12mm in diameter to stabilize it within the femoral head.
Proximal end oval shaped body adds to rotational stability.
Hip peg is dynamic within the nail with optional limited sliding motion.
BMD increases around the Fixion Hip Peg after expansion and decreases around a standard lag screw after insertion. The increased bone density potentially contributes to a better fixation of the implant within the bone.
The Fixion Hip Peg has 5 times higher torsional stability than a standard lag screw.
The Fixion Hip Peg has similar pull-out strength to a standard Lag Screw.
PRINCIPLES OF ORPERATION
Minimally invasive procedure for proximal femoral fractures.
Reduced diameter drill holes for nail and hip peg.
No distal interlocking screws required.
Reduced risk of infection.
Minimal exposure to fluoroscopy.
Reduced operating time.
The PF nail and hip peg are provided sterile in a reduced diameter configuration.
The minimally invasive implantation procedure:
~ The PF nail is inserted using the insertion device.
~ Preparation for the hip peg is completed and the hip peg in inserted.
~ Both components are expanded with saline solution using a multi use pump.
FIXION PF PROCEDURE
INDICATIONS
Fixation of pertrochanteric, intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures.
